As the morning progressed, the area around Longs Peak (left center) became hazier and hazier. We felt bad for the folks who chose this day to climb RMNP's highest peak. Amazingly, the very next day all of the smoke would be gone!

Dream Lake, perhaps the most photographed lake in RMNP, lies beneath Hallett's Peak. Hikemaster Scott has sat at this spot countless times in the course of his life, and with scenery like this, it's little wonder.
Fires in western Colorado blew smoke into RMNP, creating heavy haze throughout the park. Here, Longs Peak is barely visible from the Dream Lake trail. The smell of burning wood was ubiquitous on this not-so-good-for-hiking day in RMNP.
Looking down on Nymph Lake from a few hundred feet above on the Dream Lake trail.
Mom and Dad hike down the Dream Lake trail. Hazy skies made it tough to make out the peaks in the distance.
Tyndall Creek flows down Tyndall Gorge. Hallett's Peak stands at the head of the gorge, and Dream Lake sits just out of sight over the trees in the center of the photo.
