PearLake001.jpg Hikemaster Scott and Mareike got a late start up the Pear Lake trail, with this gorgeous overview of Wild Basin in morning sunshine. The weather was warm and sunny, but conditions were great! image by hikemaster
  • Great view...

PearLake002.jpg Great view of Wild Basin from about 3 miles up the Finch/Pear Lake trail. Mount Alice (12th ranked in RMNP) is at the right, Isolation Peak (19th ranked in RMNP) to the left, and Tanima Peak appears in the center. image by hikemaster

PearLake004.jpg After 5 miles, Mareike and Hikemaster Scott arrived here, at beautifully blue Finch Lake. Gorgeous scenery, clear skies, and gentle breezes made for a lovely 20-min stay at this, Wild Basin's lowest lake. image by hikemaster
  • Copeland M...

PearLake005.jpg Copeland Mountain (16th ranked in RMNP) rises dramatically behind Finch Lake. Mareike loved her trip to Wild Basin on this gorgeous beginning to July. image by hikemaster

PearLake006.jpg Two happy hikers :-) Mareike and Hikemaster Scott pose at Finch Lake. Elk's Tooth (left) and Copeland Mountain (right) form the core background scenery from the east side of the lake. image by hikemaster

PearLake008.jpg It was sunny and warm at Finch Lake on this, the first day of July in RMNP. Mareike enjoys a little respite on the rocks next to Finch Lake. She really enjoyed this, her longest hike on her visit to RMNP :-) image by hikemaster

PearLake010.jpg Time to head for Pear Lake, but first Hikemaster Scott captured this image of Finch Lake from its northern shore, looking south towards Meadow Mountain. image by hikemaster
  • About 1/2 ...

PearLake012.jpg About 1/2 way from Finch to Pear, this unexpected lily-pad covered pond appeared through the trees next to the trail. Some blooms were starting on the pond. Anyone know the name of this quiet body of water? It was very peaceful :-) image by hikemaster
  • Hikemaster...

PearLake014.jpg Hikemaster Scott cannot remember the trail to Pear Lake. He hiked it in total darkness with Hikemasters Billy and Tony on August 10, 2008 on a 20-mile Ogallala Peak hike. But it was great to see it in the light of day this day. image by hikemaster
  • The trip t...

PearLake016.jpg The trip to Pear Lake (10,500 ft) was worth every step. The wilderness here is very rugged and tree-covered. Not the best place to bushwhack! The vegetation is amazingly lush, and Mareike really enjoyed the forested walk through the conifer forest. image by hikemaster
  • Mareike hi...

PearLake019.jpg Mareike hikes towards Pear Lake thorugh a mature forest of evergreens. The trees were extremely fragrant, and she loved the isolation and remoteness of this stretch of trail. image by hikemaster
  • There's a ...

PearLake020.jpg There's a good sign! A bridge across Pear Creek, merely 0.1 miles below the lake. Mareike poses on the bridge...hope it doesn't break! image by hikemaster
  • The trail ...

PearLake023.jpg The trail to Pear Lake was virtually snow-free, but in the final steps below Pear Lake, Hikemaster Scott and Mareike encountered drifts such as this. It was easy to cross, especially for these 2 "snow" experts! image by hikemaster
  • Meadow (le...

PearLake024.jpg Meadow (left) and St. Vrain (right) Mountains rises to the southeast of the trail near Pear Lake. The snow came upon Mareike and Hikemaster Scott rather suddenly, after nearly 7 miles without snow. image by hikemaster

PearLake025.jpg Hikemaster Scott poses on snow in the trees mere steps below Pear Lake. Elk's Tooth (left) and Copeland Mountain (right) appear through the trees. image by hikemaster

PearLake028.jpg There it is! Pear Lake is gorgeous, and well worth the 7 mile trip :-) Elk's Tooth (left) and Copeland Mountain (right) rises dramaticallly to the west. Hikemaster Scott arrives at the lake around noon. image by hikemaster
  • Thanks, Ma...

PearLake029.jpg Thanks, Mareike, for making the long trek to Pear Lake. The reward for the long hike was a whole lot of solitude and peace at the lake. It was a great visit! image by hikemaster
  • Pear Lake ...

PearLake030.jpg Pear Lake sits beneath Copeland Mountain. To climb this peak, it is much easier to climb from the other side (Ouzel Lake approach) to avoid the cliffs seen here. image by hikemaster

PearLake033.jpg From the outlet of Pear Lake, Mareike takes a photo to the southeast. Meadow Mountain rises in the distance. The lake sits just a bit below treeline. image by hikemaster
  • The scene ...

PearLake034.jpg The scene from the outlet of Pear Lake is awesome! Believe it or not, in the gorge to the right of Elk's Tooth (center) lie no less than 4 more lakes: the 3 Hutchenson Lakes and Cony Lake. image by hikemaster
